WRITING COMPREHENSION GRADE 3: Building Sentences Teaching Guide

This Written Comprehension Series teaches students that good writing grows sentence

by sentence. Instead of jumping straight into essays, students learn how to build ideas

clearly, creatively, and confidently – one sentence at a time. Guides are designed for one-on-one instruction, tutoring, homeschooling, or independent learning support. Lessons focus on helping individual students build confidence by gradually expanding simple sentences into detailed writing.

Grade 3 Focus:

• Capital letters and punctuation

• Subjects and predicates

• Naming words, action words, and describing words

• Adding who, what, where, when

• Expanding sentences with adjectives

• Writing complete thoughts
